Change Out Forklift Tine Extensions Hands Free

Changing out Forklift Tines in some jobs happens multiple times per hour. If you operate in that environment, we can make it easier. The short cut I have seen is people not securing the fork tine extensions to the forklift. We can make it so you don’t have to consider the short cut as a solution. Stay in the seat. Protect your hands. Protect your back. Get it done quickly. Come on. Let’s see how we do this.

Forklift Tine Changing Stand

Our Forklift Tine Changing Stand serves two purposes. It allows you to store the Forklift Tine Extensions safely so they aren’t falling over, or left out as a tripping hazard. They also provide a way to change out the tines quickly without exiting the forklift. You can put open bottom forks on, or remove them with the stand even if you have them pinned off to the heel of the tine.

The Forklift Changing Stand gets anchored to the floor. Extend the support so it is stable. You can see the tines sit in a tray to lock them in place at the base. At the top they are locked in place in two ways so they are safely retained. You use less space and the extensions are secured.

At the Forklift Tine Extension Changing Station, there is enough room to charge the forks between the tray and the Eichinger Tine Extensions. Line up the forks to charge the the tines in this space.

After you have driven as far forward as you can, lift the forks and the extensions so that the heel will clear. If need be, you’ll want to back up some distance. The goal will be to get the main fork tines clear of the structure of the stand. You’ll also want the extensions to slide to the heel of the forklift tines so the pin will clear the heel and it can all lock on as you lift it. The metal on metal contact should slide easily as you back up. But don’t back up so far that the extensions will fall off of the stand. This would be a dangerous act and likely damage the extensions.

As you are clearing the Forklift Tine Extension Stand, you will want to lift the forks and start to back up in unison. Again, the goal is to clear the main fork tines from the stand. But do not back up so far that the extensions fall without support. This is easy, but it might take a couple of operations until you have the coordination worked out.

When you have lifted and cleared the structure, you can lift until the tines are clear of the horizontal bar. Once they are clear and supported, you can back out of the stand and go to work. The heel of the extensions have a pin that should lock on to the heel of the forklift tines securing them in place. Instead of getting by without a pin in place because you are changing them out on the floor, you now have the assurance of the pin in place to keep the tines from being able to slide off in an emergency stop. You have added safety and security of the product with less work. It’s also safer as a practice. You never leave the controls. Your back, hips and knees aren’t in danger due to the years of getting on and off of the forklift as well. This tool is a win for everyone.

Reverse the Process for Removal

Removing the fork tine extensions is just as easy when using our open fork tines from Eichinger.

  1. Land the tips of the tines on the horizontal storage bar.

  2. Begin to lower the Forklift Mast frame.

  3. As the Forklift tines clear the horizontal bar, drive forward while lowering the forklift mast frame.

  4. Line up the heel of the tine extensions with the channel steel at the bottom.

  5. Place the extensions in the tray until the forklift tines are unloaded. Back up the forklift leaving the tine extensions in the stand.

  6. Return the forklift to service.

We don’t know an easier method to install fork extensions on the market. If you would like this simple and effective solution, we can help.
